Lims to Hong Kong! Part 1

I’ve never really been excited about Hong Kong because I found it too similar to Singapore. So, what’s the point? But but but, with so many friends going to Hong Kong and them posting so many DROOLWORTHY pictures of the dim sum and HK food, I told myself that I must give HK a second chance. Totally didn’t regret it 😀

TADAH!

HELLO HONG KONG!

I didn’t have time to plan an itinerary so I felt a little bad that we were just roaming the streets aimlessly. We asked around and were referred to this Kam Wah cafe. It looked a little too normal so our expectations were low (didn’t know that it’s actually popular!)

Little did we know that the pineapple bun was SO AWESOME!

The crust was buttery and thick. The bun was freshly baked, moist and soft. It’s the best pineapple bun I had.

Royal Plaza allowed an early check in and we were so grateful!

Got the family room for only $200/night and I highly recommend this hotel! It’s spacious enough for four pax and the room looks really modern and nice. Plus, it’s just next to the Mong Kok East station and is of walking distance to Prince Edward station too

We rested a bit before heading for the much raved about wanton mee at Jordan.

Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop
(51 Parkes Street. Take Exit c2 from Jordan MTR)

As you can see, it’s a really small place! Felt really obliged to finish our food fast since there was a really long queue and the servers are rushing everything. From taking orders, to serving orders to clearing the tables.

I didn’t like the mee but I really like the wantons!

Muahaha! Our next food stop was right next to the wanton mee place 😀

Australian Dairy Company
(47 Parkes Street. Take Exit c2 from Jordan MTR)

They are known for their scrambled egg but I wrongly ordered the fried egg because I mixed up 炒蛋 and 煎蛋. The former is scrambled eggs so don’t make the same mistake ok? I tried asking if I could change but guess how the servers reacted :p

If I ever plan another trip to HK, I’ll travel in Jan/Feb! It was so hot in Singapore but so cold there ❤

We took the ferry from Tsim Tsa Tsui to Hong Kong island and was impressed by how convenient and cheap (cheaper than taking a bus in SG) it is!

Seriously – how did I get the impression that it’s like Singapore??

I wanted to take an open top bus badly but was quite sad that it costs like SG$50 per pax. Thankfully I found this purple open-top bus that costs like only 20% of that. See, that’s why we all need data plan when we are overseas hehehe

http://www.rickshawbus.com/

I really wasn’t listening to the tour. Was happy that I saved so much and was soaking in the sights!

We looked very cool in the pictures taken on the open-top right?

But in actual fact… WE WERE FREEZING.

I had to buy those warm packs hahahaha

We went back to Tsim Sha Tsui for the Symphony of Lights and it was so-so leh.

But still worth a visit!

Went back to our hotel after Symphony of Lights but how can we end our day without some HK snacks?

I’m in love with HK.

IT’S A TORTURE!

boohoo.
counting down to the hk trip is really a torture.
there’s still like one month and 2 more days to go? :/
LONG way to go.

zy sw and i have been doing our research, and zy has learnt to bookmark the pages.
i have got 3 bookmark folders for the hk trip.
1) HK shopping
2) HK hotels
3) HK

#3 is basically a general folder. i.e transportation, weather that kinda stuff lar. not very important.
#2 is the most impt folder now because we have yet to confirm our accomodation. and the agent told us july is a peak season for hk (because of their summer SALESSS heh..) so it’s better for us to book early.
if not, like what zy said,
“can sleep under the overhead bridge alrdy laaaa.”

zy and i went people’s park to look for hk land packages today.
but bleah.
all their hotel charges are by PER HEAD and only pple who doesnt know the wonders of internet would get scammed.
their per head charges for Majestic Hotel (for eg) is close to 90 per nite.
whereas, if you book ONLINE, (assuming ure smart enough to get to the right site) you can get it at 115 per nite. and split it among the people who are gg to share the room with u. so for example if there’s 2 who are gonna share the rm, it will be 115/2 = 57.5 PER HEAD PER NITE.

HAIL THE WONDERS OF WWW.

butbutbut.
actually we all are quite decided on majestic hotel.
then the agent gave us a map and we saw this Mayfair Garden hotel that is even nearer to Jordan MRT station,
andandand it’s CHEAPER!
in the end we were deciding between mayfair and majestic.

HOWEVER,
after reading all the reviews on mayfair,
i think it’s better to stick to majestic.
because
1) they said the toilet is rather run-down, “old but clean” – i’m very picky about toilets. those scary toilets in those hk horror movies is the LAST thing i wanna see in my hotel’s toilet.
2) “SLIDING toilet door” – how old-school can? and i don’t think it’s those cool kind of sliding door you know. i think it’s the old creaky kinda sliding door.

i think when it comes to choosing a hotel, the toilet is a very important factor to consider.
i mean,
you had a long day.
you walked the whole stretch of nathan street.
your legs are aching like mad.
it’s a humid day and you feel damn sticky.

and you see a stupid creaky sliding door with yellowish floor tiles,
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?

i won’t even feel like bathing anymore.
probably kr has got better toilets.

so bleah.
i think we are rather decided on majestic already?
🙂

now it’s just a 116per nite with no late check-out.
or
123 per  nite with late check-out.

the late check out will be really fantastic for us because our flight is at 8.40pm and the 6pm check out is just nice.
their default checkout time is 12noon.
:/

(i would really be amazed by anyone who would read till this paragraph because i realise i really typed a lot. hahhahaa.)

how now brown cow?

i think we are still going ahead with the 116 per night because i think we can always bargain for a late check-out. 😀

hahahaha think we are really excited about the trip.
that zy has already planned the itinery for the first day..
the mdm tussauds wax museum, then the victoria peak. and finally lan kwai fong to experience their night life ahhahaha!
since they are all in the central.

there will be a day set aside for disneyland too.

and the other 3 days.
it’s
gonna
be

i’m sure you would have guessed it
